What is an AccessNI check?
An AccessNI check provides criminal history information for people working or volunteering in Northern Ireland. It helps organisations make safer recruitment decisions and, for certain roles, helps determine whether an individual is suitable to work with children or vulnerable adults.
If you have been asked to complete an Enhanced AccessNI Check for your role, follow the steps below. You can also watch our quick step-by-step guide video.
Before you start, make sure you know the role you are being checked for and why an Enhanced AccessNI Check is required.
Go to the nidirect website and apply for an Enhanced AccessNI Check. You will need to create a nidirect account if you do not already have one. Once your account has been activated, log in and begin your application. Apply here: Apply for an AccessNI check on nidirect Important: Keep your nidirect login details safe, as you will need them to log back into your account and access your online certificate
Enter the NDCN PIN code – 283521 when prompted. This links your application to North Down Community Network. As part of the online process, you will be asked to upload photographs of your identification documents.
Have the following information ready before completing your application:
National Insurance number
Full name, including any middle names and previous names
Your address history for the last 5 years
Your relevant ID/document details
Once you have completed your part of the online application, contact Lauren at NDCN to let us know. Please provide:
Name of the organisation requesting the check
Your full job/role title
Details of the duties you will be carrying out
Whether the role is paid or voluntary
Email admin@ndcn.co.uk or telephone 028 9146 1386.
NDCN will then complete our part of the process and submit your application to AccessNI. Once your certificate is ready, AccessNI will email you to let you know that it is available to view through your online account.
Payment: Please check with the organisation requesting your AccessNI check whether you are required to pay NDCN directly or whether the organisation should be invoiced. Volunteer checks may be eligible to be processed free of charge, depending on the role.
